A Permanent Solution: Dental Implants FAQ

Jan 16, 2024

Dental implants provide replacement teeth that function, feel and look like your natural teeth. Modern dental restorations are attractive and durable, fusing right into the jawbone so they function just like the real thing. Implants stimulate the bone while you chew and speak so there is minimal risk of losing bone where the tooth was missing. At Shore Smiles Dental, we can create new foundations for your teeth and help restore your smile. Our own Dr. Jigar Gandhi was a recipient of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists Award and has worked with many patients to provide an optimal tooth replacement solution.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth permanently replacing a missing tooth. Made of bone-like components and titanium, they are compatible with the jaw and support a full denture. The two types of dental implants include endosteal (positioned directly into the bone) and subperiosteal (attached with a metal frame under the gum tissue). Dental implants can replace every tooth in both arches or simply provide a convenient and permanent solution for replacing a single missing tooth. Either way, with your dental implants fused to the jawbone, they feel just like natural tooth roots.

What Is the Procedure for Dental Implants?

Our team at Shore Smiles Dental will evaluate your oral health and determine which implant options are best for you. After your consultation, we will review your customized plan in detail. From preparation of the area to the installation of your implants, we educate our patients on the entire process. Depending on your individual needs, the time from evaluation to implant can vary greatly with most taking 6 to 8 months due to the healing process required between each stage. With the effect of gum disease often associated with missing teeth, bone grafting may be necessary which takes time to heal before implantation can occur. Also, we offer sedation dentistry so if you feel anxious about the procedure, we can make you feel more relaxed with sedation.

What Is the Cost of Dental Implants?

The multiple phases of a dental implant procedure make it an expensive undertaking. Replacing your teeth with permanent, functioning teeth is an amazing opportunity that comes with a hefty price tag. The average range for dental implants is $3,000 to $40,000 depending on how many implants and whether or not bone grafting is mandatory. Most insurance companies including Medicare do not offer dental implant coverage so balancing your budget with your need and desire for beautiful, permanent teeth is necessary.

At Shore Smiles Dental, we offer second opinions. So if you received a dental implant quote from your current dentist, we’d be happy to compare and consult.
